Depression  and Bipolar Support Alliance - The Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance (DBSA) is the leading patient-directed national organization focusing on the most prevalent mental illnesses.  The organization fosters an environment of understanding about the impact and management of these life-threatening illnesses by providing up-to-date, scientifically-based tools and information written in language the general public can understand. DBSA supports research to promote more timely diagnosis, develop more effective and tolerable treatments and discover a cure. The organization works to ensure that people living with mood disorders are treated equitably. DBSA was founded in 1985.

Associação Brasileira de Transtorno Bipolar - Em março de 2005, por ocasião do fórum brasileiro de especialistas sobre o transtorno bipolar em Porto Alegre, houve uma reunião informal de 19 psiquiatras brasileiros com o atual Presidente da International Society for Bipolar Disorder (ISBD), Prof. Lakshmi Yatham, Professor de Psiquiatria na Universidade de British Columbia em Vancouver, Canadá. Nesta ocasião decidiu-se criar uma rede de pesquisa nacional em Transtorno Bipolar. A melhor forma de viabilizar a rede de pesquisa seria a criação de uma sociedade brasileira filiada a ISBD.
